Wedding insiders part 3

It's been almost two months since Derick and Jill tied the knot and we are back with the third part of the wedding interview. Sierra and the other wedding planners wanted to make sure that they did the wedding to Derick and Jill's plans were. They were glad to see that Derick and Jill were really happy on what they had planned out.

Sierra knew that the most important part of the wedding is the marriage. She only sent Jill one text to see how she and Derick were doing and Jill responded. Sierra wanted to make sure that she let Derick and Jill enjoy their first weeks as newlywed.

Jill's sisters were a big key to the weding planning. Jessa could have used this time to plan her own wedding but decided to make sure that all the focus was on Jill along with her sisters. There is word that there is another wedding for Jessa and Ben.

Sierra admitted that she missed the first kiss since she had to leave about 20 minutes early to make sure that eveything was set up for the reception. The reception was on the outside of Cross Church and thanks to TLC, she can watch the first kiss when it airs this fall.

Derick and Jill had a back up plan if it rain that they would move the party inside of the church gyms. The skies opened up the day after the wedding and rain for many days after that.

Don't forget to check out here to find out when the show premieres for new episodes leading up to the wedding later on next month!

Michelle Duggar on Why She Chose Modest Dress

Question from a "19 Kids and Counting" fan on Facebook: Why did you decide to follow a style of modest dress and what are your family guidelines?
After I was born again and became a Christian, I really began to cover up. I felt like the Lord was saying to me, you know what, you probably shouldn’t be wearing that. It’s a little bit low cut, or a little bit too high, you know. I just really felt like I needed to obey what God was saying to me first and understand later. And then I saw in the scriptures a lot of things that helped me understand why I was feeling uncomfortable with my previous clothing choices. And I’m not saying this is for everyone because I realize different people are at different places and aren’t always going to have the same way of interpreting things.
Interestingly, Jim Bob and I had a conversation at that point and I said to him, I really feel like the Lord is impressing upon me that I should be modest in what I wear. And also, that I really should be defining who I am as a woman by choosing to wear dresses and skirts. So Jim Bob said, what about when we’re riding bicycles or going hiking? Do you think the Lord wants you to wear a dress then? How are you going to do that? What about swimming and all these other things that we do?
And I said, well, I don’t know the answer to that, but I’ll cross that bridge when we get there. I just feel like the Lord is saying, do this Michelle. Honor me in this way. I don’t always know the answers and details, but I just wanted to honor him. And so I did. I began cleaning out my closet and I had to go shopping. I went to thrift stores and different places because most of my clothes were not skirts and dresses. I really had to do some research to find things that were modest and so I’d have more things to choose from in my closet.
As we studied as a family, we found we could come up with our idea of what we thought modesty was, but we really wanted to see what the scriptures said about it. Our interpretation was that from the neck down to the knee should be covered. By keeping those private areas covered, there’s not any “defrauding” going on. My kids are taught the definition of defrauding as stirring up desires that cannot be righteously fulfilled. We don’t believe in defrauding others by the way we dress. And different people may be defrauded by different things. We can’t control their thoughts, but we’re responsible before God for our part. And so years ago, I just felt between me and my Lord that I really needed to dress modestly.
We always tell our children, go to his word. It’s not about these rigid standards. I meet many different people along life’s way and I hear some people say they are so sick of rules and regulations, and they go on and on about how they were raised in a certain denomination. I’m hearing what they’re saying, but I don’t understand it because that’s not where I came from. It’s not drudgery; it really is a joy to see what God says about things and bring that into our lives.

Question from a "19 Kids and Counting" fan: How do you feel about Jana and Jill pursuing midwifery?
Boy, it’s definitely been exciting. It’s very interesting to me. Jana from the beginning has just loved children. And being the first-born daughter in our family you would think as she becomes an adult she probably has had her fill with children around all the time -- that she’d probably want to do something with adults. But it is so interesting to see that any time she has an opportunity to do something in the community it always has to do with children. She wants to go to the children’s home. She wants to help mamas deliver babies. It’s just all about kids.
Jana and Jill both have been a team together working in midwifery. Jana really wants to be a doula and assist mothers in labor. She really has a good way about her when it comes to crisis situations. She can take the bull by the horns. Around the house, if Mama isn’t here at the moment and somebody has a boo-boo, Jana can fix it.
Jill is interested in the study of midwifery and taking full responsibility at the birth. I think it’s kind of neat to see the two of them work together. They’re gone for days sometimes delivering a baby; when a mother is in labor Jana and Jill are there for the duration. Whether it’s a hospital birth, home birth or a birthing center the team sticks together. So they get a call, and we don’t know when we’ll see them again. It’s been a very rewarding learning experience for the girls. I think Jill will continue her studies to get her accredited midwifery license. And Jana is piling up the hours in her doula training.
I see Jana now and I remember her personality when she was young. I would have never have thought that she would have gone the direction she did. She was very energetic as a little girl, but she’s very reserved and quiet as an adult. But boy, when she jumps into a crisis situation, she’s in charge, and she’s capable. I just encourage all of them. I tell them there’s absolutely nothing that they cannot do if God has called them to do it; he will equip you with what you need and you will be capable.
